How are Botox and fillers used?

Botox is an FDA-approved injectable wrinkle relaxer to smooth lines and wrinkles on the face safely. Botox injections block specific nerve chemical signals, mostly signals that cause muscles to contract.

The injectable works by relaxing over-used muscles underneath the skin to minimize: 

• Dynamic wrinkles like "crow's feet" in the corners of the eye
• Frown lines (also called 11’s)
• Forehead furrows
• Smiles lines
• And more

The result is an overall softer and more youthful appearance. In addition, Botox injections can also be used to treat:

• Severe headaches
• Excessive perspiration
• Temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) disorder

Filers are FDA-approved to correct moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and skin folds and increase the fullness of lips, chin, jawline, cheeks, under-eye hollows, and back of the hand. They're also FDA-approved to restore facial fat loss in people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and correct acne scars on the cheek.

Which is better, Botox or dermal fillers?

Neither is superior, as Botox and fillers are used for different purposes.

Botox treats the dynamic wrinkles in your upper face, whereas filler adds volume to skin and scars to smooth them. Dermal fillers usually last longer, but you can combine them to treat wrinkles and blemishes.

What are some types of Botox and fillers?

JEUVEAU 

JEUVEAU® is a prescription medicine injected into muscles and used in adults for a short period to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines).

Dysport 

Dysport™ is a prescription injection to temporarily improve the look for moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. There aren't many differences between Botox and Dysport.

Depending on your specific treatment area, you can expect the effects from your Dysport injection to last about three or four months.

Xeomin

Xeomin® is a prescription medication used in facial aesthetics to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar frown lines between the eyes (glabellar lines) in adults. Xeomin is just as effective as Botox and is comparable in terms of how well people tolerated it and how long the effects lasted.
