BOTOX ® Cosmetic is an FDA approved injectable wrinkle relaxer used to safely smooth lines and wrinkles on the face. BOTOX ® Cosmetic works by relaxing the over-used muscles underneath the skin to minimize dynamic wrinkles like "crow's feet" in the corners of the eye, frown lines (also known as “11’s”), forehead furrows, smiles lines, and more. The result is an overall softer and more youthful appearance. In addition, BOTOX ® Cosmetic can also be used to treat severe headaches, excessive perspiration, and temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. Dermal fillers, including Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse and Sculptra, help treat the smile lines around the mouth as well as wrinkles, dark circles and hollowness around the eyes. One of the newest fillers to hit the market is Voluma, which is considered a game-changer for non-surgical rejuvenation treatments. Voluma consists of a very malleable hyaluronic acid (HA) gel specifically designed to replace lost volume in the cheek area. Dermal fillers have the ability to do the following for the face and skin:
Dysport™ is a prescription injection for temporary improvement in the look for moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults.
Xeomin® is a prescription medication used in facial aesthetics to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar frown lines between the eyes (glabellar lines) in adults.
Chemical peels can be used to treat a wide range of skin conditions. These include fine lines and wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, freckles, dark spots (or age spots), sun-damage, and acne scars. Depending on your skin type and desired outcome we will select a peel or series of peels that minimize down-time and maximize results. Please contact our office for additional information on chemical peel treatments.
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid soft tissue filler. The filler has been available for use in Europe for 12 years and used in 72 countries throughout the world. Comprised of a lidocaine formula, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC adds comfort during the treatment. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC also known as Voluma XC injectable gel is the first and only filler that is FDA-approved to instantly display increases in volume to the cheeks. The treatment provides a subtle lift, helping to restore both contour and more overall youth to your profile. The treatment is for patients over the age of 21 and results are displayed for up to 2 years.
Restylane-L® could be used to add volume and fullness to the skin and to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane may also be used for lip enhancement.
Restylane® Lyft is approved by the FDA for cheek augmentation and the correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies. This is in addition to treating moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines).
Radiesse is a synthetic injectable filler that has been approved by the FDA to reduce moderate-to-severe wrinkles, folds, and creases around the nose and mouth by stimulating the natural production of collagen in the skin.
Belotero is a hyaluronic acid-based injectable filler, much like Juvederm or Restylane. FDA approved in 2011, the gel is said to temporarily add volume to the skin and give a smoother appearance.
Perlane is injectable cosmetic dermal filler that has been used to soften wrinkles and facial lines of individuals. It is also a popular filler for lip augmentation, facial depressions, and facial scarring. It can be used in both sexes.
Perlane injections can be used to improve the contour of facial skin, decrease unsightly wrinkles, and reduce fine lines around the nose, folds, scars, and other facial skin depressions and last for up to 6-8 months.
Side effects are uncommon and include temporary redness, swelling, itching or tenderness, usually resolved in a few weeks.
HydraFacial is a resurfacing procedure that provides comprehensive care and intense hydration for your skin. It cleanses, exfoliates, extracts, and hydrates using peptides, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid, resulting in cleared, more beautiful skin with no discomfort or downtime. The treatment is soothing, moisturizing, non-invasive and non-irritating.
Glycolic Peels are now considered to be the most advanced form of facial available. The Alpha Hydroxy Acid ‘Glycolic Peel’ is derived from sugar cane and has the smallest molecular structure of the AHA family. It can therefore penetrate into the skin much more effectively than other Alpha Hydroxy Acids. It is not absorbed in to the body and so will not cause any systemic side effects like chemicals in other peels.
Sclerotherapy is a procedure that can reduce the appearance of spider veins and reticular veins. Sclerotherapy is performed by injecting the problem vein with a sclerosing agent that irritates the vein lining, causing it to constrict. Over time the vein fades as it is naturally reabsorbed by the body. This redirects blood flow to other, healthier, veins located deeper beneath the surface skin. The procedure is most commonly performed for cosmetic reasons. Patients should have an in-office consult prior to scheduling to determine if the veins in question are good treatment candidates for sclerotherapy. The procedure itself takes approximately 25 to 30 minutes. Since the injection needle is so small, patients often feel little pain and do not need any anesthesia.
Varicose vein treatment: Lasers are great tools for eliminating spider veins and small varicose veins. Our healthcare providers use a unique high-powered laser that can destroy unwanted veins without affecting the skin. The system also features innovative cooling technology that helps ensure patient comfort during the short procedure. While some patients may experience redness, swelling, or mild discoloration, side effects are generally minimal. There are no long-term side effects and no downtime. Most patients tolerate the procedure well. To completely clear unwanted veins, you may need multiple sessions.
The i-Lipo emits low levels of laser energy, which creates a chemical signal in the fat cells, breaking down the stored triglycerides into free fatty acids and glycerol and releasing them though channels in the cell membranes. The fatty acids and glycerol are then transported around the body to the tissues that will use them during metabolism to create energy.
This process of fatty acid release is a natural response of the body when the body needs to used stored energy reserves, thus i-Lipo is not creating any unnatural reaction in the body nor does it affect or damage any surrounding structures such as skin, blood vessels and peripheral nerves. A period of exercise post treatment will ensure the complete metabolism and thus elimination from the body of the freed fatty acids.
Laser Hair Removal works to remove unwanted hair by producing a beam of highly concentrated light that is scanned across an area of the body. The pigment within the hair follicles of that area absorb the light emitted by the laser. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time to reduce or significantly impede the hair re-growth. Hair grows in cycles, and in any given area on the body you may have various hairs all at different phases of the cycle. With laser hair removal, only the hair follicles that are in the active growth phase will be most affected. After the laser hair removal treatment, the remaining hair may be patchy, since some hairs are more resilient than others. The results from a laser hair removal treatment may vary from one individual to another, based on factors such as hormonal hair growth patterns, hair type, color of hair, ethnic background and the specific area being treated.
Earlobe repair can restore stretched or split earlobes to their natural appearance. Earlobe repair is a relatively simple procedure done in the office with local anesthesia. To allow the lobe of the ear to heal back together, the provider cuts away the healed skin on the inside of the long hole or torn earlobe. The fresh edges are then sutured back together. Sutures are removed after approximately 1-2 weeks. Should you want to re-pierce your ears, we do that 6 weeks later, to the right or left of the scar, with special attention paid not to pierce the ear at the scar to prevent re-tearing.
E-matrix laser skin resurfacing is an FDA-cleared treatment that gently resurfaces the skin over 4-5 treatments. It tightens surface loose skin, improves skin texture and reduces the appearance of mild to moderate wrinkles, acne scarring and abdominal stretch marks. It also minimizes the appearance of pores and brightens the skin. This laser is non-ablative, and there is minimal downtime (approx 48 hours with mild roughness remaining for 3-5 days-makeup can be applied after the first 48 hours). During treatment, intense heat is generated under the surface of the skin without disrupting the skins surface in the process. E-matrix stimulates collagen and elastin production in the deep layers of the skin resulting in a tighter, smoother, more refined and brighter appearance. Results continue over 3-5 months after the final treatment and can be maintained annually.
Fungal infections are a common type of skin problem that can also affect the hair and nails. Also called tinea, infections can occur on any part of the body. Ringworm, jock itch and athlete’s foot are some of the most recognized names for fungal infections on the body. Fungal infections frequently affect teens and children, but adults can also get fungal infections. Topical medications are usually effective for treating fungal infections. However in some cases, oral medications may also be needed. A dermatologist will prescribe the best treatment after examining the infection.
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that can cause flushing, red skin, pimples, visible facial blood vessels and an enlarged nose with prominent sebaceous glands. Rosacea occurs most commonly in women between the ages of 30 and 50 but can also occur in men. While genetic predisposition is the most important etiologic factor, a multitude of external factors can flare rosacea including sun exposure, heat, stress, alcohol, caffeinated beverages, spicy foods and certain skin care products. While there is no cure for rosacea, minimizing exposure to factors that trigger rosacea is helpful. Our healthcare providers specialize in the treatment of rosacea. In addition to medical therapy and a customized skin care program, we offer the latest in office procedures to minimize the manifestations of this distressing condition including chemical peels and laser treatments.
Hair loss, also known as alopecia, affects millions of men and women every year. Most people naturally shed about 50 to 100 hairs a day, but sometimes men and women can shed much more, leading to thinning hair, hair loss and over time, baldness. The causes of hair loss can be a result of hormones, underlying medical conditions, medications, or purely genetics and can run in families. Understanding the reason for each person’s hair loss is the key to re-growing hair. Our healthcare providers will put together a personalized treatment plan for each individual patient, based on their underlying causes of hair loss. This can include topical treatments (which can be rubber into the scalp to help stimulate hair growth), oral medications, injections and more.
