Botox

Botox is a neurotoxic protein which is injected directly in minute doses into a muscle group to paralyse the area so that it can’t wrinkle. It is typically used on the forehead and around the eyes but can also be used on the neck and upper lip. It last about three months.

Side effects: drooping of the eyelid can occur, usually if the Botox migrates from the injection site — which is why patients are told not to lie down for three to four hours after treatment and not to rub the treated area for at least 12 hours. Bye irritation, dry eyes, tearing and light sensitivity have also been reported. Temporary bruising may occur, and some patients have reported headaches.

Benefits of dermal filler treatments

Dermal fillers, including Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse and Sculptra, help treat the smile lines around the mouth as well as wrinkles, dark circles and hollowness around the eyes. One of the newest fillers to hit the market is Voluma, which is considered a game-changer for non-surgical rejuvenation treatments. Voluma consists of a very malleable hyaluronic acid (HA) gel specifically designed to replace lost volume in the cheek area. Dermal fillers have the ability to do the following for the face and skin:

  • Restore lost volume to the cheek area
  • Erase dark circles under the eye
  • Add a natural fullness to the lips
  • Erase the smile and laugh lines around the mouth
  • Help give a youthful shape to the face
  • Restore lost volume in the hands, making them appear younger
  • Benefits of Botox injections

Dysport

Dysport is an injectable designed for treating moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles. It does this by relaxing facial muscles in the forehead.

Dysport™ blocks signals that cause muscles to contract and tighten. By doing this it stop muscle activty preventing wrinkles from occuring. Your physician will consult with you to which target area will give you better results.

Xeomin

XEOMIN® is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults.

Chemical peels

Light chemical peels work like a concentrated form of exfoliation, which leave you with a pink tone or glow to the skin. Medium-strength peels have a higher concentration of trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and they frost and burn the skin.

They are used on the face and effects last for several months to years, depending on the strength of the peel and whether a course of peels is taken.

With medium-strength peels side effects cause the skin to darken and peel off after a week. Skin will be quite pink initially but this will gradually fade after a few weeks.

JUVEDERM

Juvéderm is a dermal filler which is said to offer longer-lasting and more natural results than traditional fillers. Juvéderm, like Esthélis and Restylane, is made from hyaluronic acid, so it provides natural-looking fullness and definition.

It is used for lip augmentation, forehead wrinkles, nasal furrows, cheek wrinkles and wrinkles between the brows and lasts around 6 to 9 months.

Side effects might include slight swelling or nodules on the injection site, which may last for up to a week. Very rare cases have been reported of discoloration of the injection area (this is reversible).

RESTYLANE

Restylane is an injectable filler composed of hyaluronic acid--a substance produced naturally by the body.It is FDA-approved for use in smoothing moderate to severe facial wrinkles and nasolabial folds. It is also used "off label" (i.e., not FDA approved) to enhance lips decrease the depth of the tear troughs. The effects of Restylane injections usually last about six months.

As with other dermal fillers, side effects of Restylane treatments can include temporary bruising, swelling, and numbness. These usually subside within a few days.

RADIESSE

This FDA-approved injectable gel temporarily adds volume to the face to reduce moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. How long does Radiesse last? Expect about six months of increased smoothness.

BELOTERO

Belotero is a hyaluronic acid-based injectable filler, much like Juvederm or Restylane. FDA approved in 2011, the gel is said to temporarily add volume to the skin and give a smoother appearance.

PERLANE

Perlane is injectable cosmetic dermal filler that has been used to soften wrinkles and facial lines of individuals. It is also a popular filler for lip augmentation, facial depressions, and facial scarring. It can be used in both sexes.

Perlane injections can be used to improve the contour of facial skin, decrease unsightly wrinkles, and reduce fine lines around the nose, folds, scars, and other facial skin depressions and last for up to 6-8 months.

Side effects are uncommon and include temporary redness, swelling, itching or tenderness, usually resolved in a few weeks.

HYDRAFACIAL

The HydraFacial MD takes non-invasive skin rejuvenation to a whole new level – even two levels above IPL. In clinical studies performed by leading U.S. doctors, the HydraFacial MD® was shown to provide better results than many other skin rejuvenation devices. Most importantly, the HydraFacial MD is the only hydradermabrasion machine that uses the patented 4-in-1 Vortex Technology.

GLYCOLIC ACID PEELS

Glycolic Peels are now considered to be the most advanced form of facial available. The Alpha Hydroxy Acid ‘Glycolic Peel’ is derived from sugar cane and has the smallest molecular structure of the AHA family. It can therefore penetrate into the skin much more effectively than other Alpha Hydroxy Acids. It is not absorbed in to the body and so will not cause any systemic side effects like chemicals in other peels.

SCLEROTHERAPY FOR VARICOSE VEINS

Sclerotherapy uses an injection of a special chemical (sclerosant) into a varicose vein to damage and scar the inside lining of the vein. This causes the vein to close.

During this procedure, the affected leg is elevated to drain blood, and the sclerosant is injected into the varicose vein. The procedure is done in a doctor's office or clinic and takes 5 to 30 minutes, depending on how many varicose veins are treated and how big they are.

After the injection of sclerosant is given, pressure is applied over the veins to prevent blood return when you stand up. You may need to wear compression stockings for several days or weeks to maintain the pressure.

i-Lipo

The i-Lipo emits low levels of laser energy, which creates a chemical signal in the fat cells, breaking down the stored triglycerides into free fatty acids and glycerol and releasing them though channels in the cell membranes. The fatty acids and glycerol are then transported around the body to the tissues that will use them during metabolism to create energy.

This process of fatty acid release is a natural response of the body when the body needs to used stored energy reserves, thus i-Lipo is not creating any unnatural reaction in the body nor does it affect or damage any surrounding structures such as skin, blood vessels and peripheral nerves. A period of exercise post treatment will ensure the complete metabolism and thus elimination from the body of the freed fatty acids.
